Hakkeijima SeaParadise (5/16/99)
Nearest Station: Keikyu Kanazawa Hakkei -> "Seaside Line" Hakkeijima
The Aquarium that cost us 2,650 yen each. Great facilities though.
"White Dolphin" Friendly and cute.
The tube you see behind the fish is a feature that this aquarium is famous for. It's a short escalator that goes through a huge fish tank.
The tube again, and the "White Dolphin" show, the main attraction.
Views from the Aquarium, which is located on an island near the Hakkeijima artificial tidal flat (beach). Japan has been making efforts to develop these flats in place of landfilled sites. Mainly for clam-digging, swimming and bird-watching.
The Island also has amusement facilities. It is free to enter the island. You pay for the individual attractions, like 500 yen each. Should be a nice place to picknick or stroll. Open until quite late at night like 9pm.
The right one looks at the Kanazawa landfill site. The building toward the left is the Yokohama Municipal U Hospital that moved in from the city center.

I fish for hobby (and living, to get food) but did not find this Aquarium so interesting. The main reason is that, fish that's confined to tanks, no matter how large they are, all gets rotten. You can see that their eyes are no longer clear and transparent like the ones you catch on sea. The reason I think is that living fish consume quite a lot of oxygen so they swim very fast, and travel a lot to find feed that they want. They can't do this if they are confined to an aquarium such as this. And rotten fish (the ones you buy at supermarkets) always smells and is not delicious. In this aquarium, I couldn't find any fish that looked delicious.
But, this aquarium's facilities are great, and has a great stock. I think the entrance fee of 2,650 yen was worth it (if it's your once-in-a-li
